In light of the major incident in London related to COVID, in addition to many players and captains being understandably reluctant to travel to OTB playing venues, the London Chess League will be postponing January 2022's matches to June 2022. The intention is to move fixtures to their equivalent date where possible (i.e. first Wednesday of January would be moved to first Wednesday of June, and so forth).
If any clubs have home venues which cannot accommodate this, we would invite them to get in touch with the League at secretary@londonchess.org.uk so that alternative arrangements can be made. We will be able to fit some matches into the Mindsports Centre on Thursdays as a backup option where needed.
The committee are planning to meet on the 20th of January to evaluate whether February's matches will also go ahead, but will act earlier if circumstances change such that we are able to or indeed, need to make a decision sooner.
If possible, we wish to avoid scheduling matches for July and August given holidays and our traditional summer break, but are also acknowledging this may be one route forward if the season encounters further interruption. We will cross this bridge if and when we come to it in mid-January.
We'd like to wish everyone a happy, safe and healthy holiday period, and we look forward to getting back in touch in the new year.
